Before You Start
The packing process is extremely important, and getting it right can save you a lot of time and future heartache. It is advisable before you begin packing that you set out a plan, and stick to it, so that you can schedule your time and where to start first so that your packing doesn’t turn into a free for all.
In your plan you should be clear about how you are going to pack each room. A good tip is to start at the top of the house and move your way downwards, so if you have a loft it’s a good idea to start there and sort that out. When packing each room make sure that you label each box in the room to which it belongs
Before you can start packing though you will need to judge how many boxes and what size boxes you are going to need for packing. A lot of people commonly misjudge how many boxes they are going to need, and usually underestimate how many items they have. It’s good to generally get more boxes than you need especially as you will need to compensate for the packing around more fragile items which will take up more room in the box. Other packing materials you will need to think about too are, packing tape, bubble wrap and marker pens. The last thing that you will want to do once your in the packing zone is to run out to get more boxes or packing tape.
Before packing anything think about those items that you don’t necessarily need or want to take with you into your new home. Sift through your things and have a clear out. Take your unwanted items to the charity shop, have a boot sale or even put them on a reseller website to make a little extra cash.
How To Pack…Efficiently
You may be thinking, everyone surely knows how to pack, it’s a no-brainer, but we have compiled a list of packing hacks that can save you time and money.
Labelling
Empty all of your appliances and pack up its accessories separately, including wires. Label each wire or accessory to which appliance it belongs to. This can be done simply by using masking tape to keep the wire together neatly and writing on the tape with marker pen.
Important items
Pack all your important documents together; such as any birth certificates, marriage certificates and keep them in a safe place. It is an idea to keep all your passports and important documents in your essentials box or on your person during your trip so that you know you definitely won’t lose them. Losing your passport is a bigger tragedy than losing a lamp.
Essentials
Pack a clear box with all the things that you need right away as soon as you get there. These items may include, phone charger, toothbrush, tea, coffee and don’t forget to put something in there that you can cut the boxes open with!
