Everyone wants their moving day to go as smoothly as possible, but that can only happen if you put some time into preparing to move.
Lists are a great tool for making sure you are on track with your move and that you don’t miss anything vital out.
So to help you out when you move home, we have created a list of top tips to help your moving day go without a hiccup.
Don’t forget to redirect
When moving home not everyone decides to redirect their post as it is an additional cost, but you may find that redirecting your post for a short period of time allows you more time to concentrate on more pressing things. Redirecting your post acts like a buffer until you are fully moved in and can then sort out changing your addresses.
Clean before moving in
One useful thing to do before you move everything into your new home is to clean it top to bottom. Whilst it may look clean, cleaning again wouldn’t hurt. By doing this beforehand you minimise having to navigate around furniture and it ensures that your home doesn’t have any hidden nasties.
Get labelling
Labelling your boxes is essential. We urge everyone to do this as it will save you time and additional lifting once you get to your new home. A simple label on every box with which room they belong in along with its contents will guide you on what to unpack first and where in the house it belongs.
Protect your floor
Moving can be really exciting, but not so great if you ruin your flooring during moving day.
We suggest keeping a few boxes to the side which you can flatten for main walkways in the house so that when you are moving your stuff in your flooring doesn’t get ruined.
Furniture first
When it comes to unloading the moving van be sure to move all your furniture in the house first, otherwise you may find yourself repositioning boxes to get everything in.
Don’t mix up your fixings
Everything, and we mean everything, has a multitude of extras that go along with it, including, screws, bolts and other fixings. To make sure that you have the right fixings for each piece of furniture be sure to put your fixings in a freezer bag and stick it to the relevant piece of furniture for safe keeping. We would also suggest writing on the bag – just in case!
