At Coastline Removals we understand all too well how stressful moving home can be, which is why our household removals service is designed to make your move go smoothly. Here we have gathered together our top tips for you to make your new move as simple as possible. The number one tip is to plan and prepare – don’t leave everything until last minute.
- Make a priority packing list – When moving to a new home or office there are some belongings which you need more than others. Therefore, make sure to pack these first and put them in a safe place.
- Spring Clean – You will be amazed by how much you own once it comes to packing it all up and moving. You are most likely to find a whole array of items which you simply do not need, which means it’s time to have a clear-out. What you don’t find useful others might, but having a clear-out can also provide you with extra money to help keep costs down.
- Packaging Materials – Get an estimate of how many boxes, protecting wrap, tape and other packaging materials you’ll need for your move. During the build up to your move, save newspapers and magazines and small bags. These will come in useful for small nuts and bolts when dismantling furniture, but also for added protection to the more valuable items that are breakable.
- Insurance – Check that your contents insurance will cover damage and breakages during the move. You can avoid any breakages from happening by packaging items carefully, but from time to time accidents, which are no one’s fault can happen and it is best to be prepared for this.
- Hazardous Items – There’s always a few odd items you come across that you tend to throw into any box, but when it comes to items such as bleach and paint, be sure to place these in a separate box.
When it comes to prioritising your belongings when packing, have a box for essentials. Ideally this box will contain the items you will need for your first night in your new home. In addition to this, pack an overnight bag that will hold all essential toiletries you will need without having to rummage through all your boxes.
Items such as books are easy enough to pack, but can be very heavy once all in the same box so be sure to get extra help where needed. Heavier items are best to be packed in smaller boxes to avoid causing an injury and making it easy enough for one person to carry it. Also, keep boxes in their designated rooms: boxes containing kitchen utensils, pots and pans should be kept in the kitchen, with those containing ornaments for the lounge to be kept in the living room. If this isn’t an option due to space, then consider writing the desired room on the box for those helping out to understand.
Hopefully this has given you some tips on how to de-stress during your big move.
