As winter sets in, moving home may not be at the top of your list. However, although the evenings are darker and the weather is much more adverse this time of year it doesn’t mean to say that moving is any harder. Indeed, icy weather can cause complications but there are some advantages of booking in your move this time of year.
During this time of year removal companies are less booked up than they are in the summer months so choosing to move in winter could be a great opportunity to choose the perfect date and time that suits you. Make up an essentials box
Like with any move an essentials box is just that… essential. It is filled with everything that you might need immediately and something that is easily identifiable amongst the rest of your moving boxes. The last thing that you want to be doing once you are in your new home is to be searching for things like mugs, tea bags, kettle, pots, pans, and towels. In winter it’s a good idea to also pack a few winter essentials such as tinned foods like soups and flasks to keep your hot drink warm whilst you are busy sorting things out.
Make the most of daylight hours
In winter daylight hours are reduced so it is important to make the most of the precious light you have. Aim to start your move as soon as the sun starts to rise so you can get everything moved in time for sunset.
Talk to your estate agent
Undoubtedly it is colder in the winter months and your new home may be pretty chilly when you move in. Your new home, especially when empty, can become cold and take a while to warm up if it has been unoccupied for some time. Talk to your estate agent to see if it’s possible to put the heating on at a low temperature before you arrive so that it is more comfortable when you arrive.
