Lockdown has swept the entire UK over the last month, and this could be a worrying time for homeowners and those in the middle of moving homes. So what does lockdown mean when it comes to moving and selling your home?
The government has frozen the property market for the time being and has put a pause on all transactions, except for those who are already under contract and have a legal obligation.
This has meant that many buyers and sellers have been ultimately left in the lurch and some even been left in isolation even whilst they are still under legal obligation to complete.
In recent news the Prime Minister has announced steps to come out of lockdown which only applies to England for the time being. From Wednesday 13th May it is said that house viewings and moves can resume again under new coronavirus rules. The new rules also state that visiting estate agents and letting agents will be allowed again to help people to move home. Whilst many have been urged to delay moving still throughout the UK, whether you are a renter or a homeowner, you are now able to do throughout England. If you are looking to move from England to Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland you may still need to wait longer until restrictions have been lifted in those countries.
For Wales, the previous rules and advice still applies. Throughout Wales we are still urged to stay home to protect the NHS and save lives. This means that those hoping to move, will need to wait an additional 3 weeks until we get additional advice on next steps for Wales or whether lockdown will be extended again.
